About Us
Haba Na Bank Food Bank is a registered NGO No 0952 in Uganda initiated by two founder members and one strategic partnership in August 2015. What is the Haba Na Haba Food Bank?
Haba Na Haba Food Bank is an NGO that uses Social and Food safety nets as a means to broaden food access and fulfill its obligation to provide food to people that are unable to provide for themselves in the quality and quantity they need. Programs involve regular transfers of food or goods (such as seed) to vulnerable communities. This assures a minimum level of food consumption and well-being, and protects communities against shocks

Who benefits from the Haba Na Haba Food Bank?
The Benefiting agencies include those that support interventions of school feeding programs, AIDS, cancer and other non-profit programs e.g. elderly & refugee, street children, orphanage’s homes and rehabilitation programs that provide food to the hungry.

Where does the food come from?
Haba Na Haba Food bank Food banking systems capture surplus food and deliver it to the people who need it most, engaging all sectors of society (governments, business, and civil) in the process. Much of this would otherwise be wasted, from farms, manufacturers, distributors, retail stores, hotels, restaurants, markets, consumers, and other sources, making it available to those in need through an established network of community agencies

What are the advantages to using the food bank?
The sustainability is high, since food goes to waste every day in every food waste point and yet disposal is costly and not environmental friendly.
The food so collected in its variety and quantity improves on the nutrition of the beneficiaries improving health and increasing immunity to diseases.
The beneficiaries because of the sustainable nature of the project are able to increase their target beneficiaries thus reduction of vulnerability and prevention of crime.
The Literacy rate is also improving since these beneficiaries support education
The beneficiaries are given skills in value addition of damaged fresh food e.g tomatoes – Tomatoes source, fruits – fruit juice

Our story
Food banking in Uganda has its origin from Co-founders who invested in farming which turned out to be of lose due to the flooding of the market with the same kind of vegetables as the one they has planted. Grappled with such information, experience, realizing that a lot of food goes to loss and waste and yet the communities still go hungry ,further research in ways of prolonging shelve lives to market produce, reducing hunger and supporting the community to improve their economic statues was made. This resulted in the Birth of Haba Na Haba Food bank – Haba Na Haba is a Swahili proverb (Haba Na Haba hujaze Kibaba) Meaning little by little the pot is filled.
